Human Trafficking in Nepal

A Crisis That Can’t Be Ignored

Human trafficking is a heartbreaking reality in Nepal, and it’s happening on a massive scale.

The open 1,758km border between Nepal and India is one of the world’s busiest trafficking routes. Every year, thousands of Nepalese—many just seeking a better life—are tricked, coerced, or forced into situations they never imagined. Some go looking for work in India or the Gulf, only to find themselves trafficked into brothels or trapped in forced labour on construction sites and in factories.

Others are lured in with false promises of love, marriage, or opportunity, and end up living a nightmare—enslaved or sold into the sex trade. Even more disturbing, some fall victim to illegal organ trafficking, one of the most horrifying forms of exploitation.

The common thread in all these stories?
Vulnerable people being taken advantage of, often with no way out. The border that so many cross in hope can quickly turn into a pathway to despair.

This crisis demands attention. It’s a human rights emergency, and awareness is the first step toward action. Together, we can shine a light on this issue and support efforts to protect the vulnerable and hold traffickers accountable.
