Koala Smart
Inspiring Action to Save Our Koalas

Koala Smart is a not-for-profit, Australia-wide education initiative based in Port Macquarie that empowers schools, both primary and secondary, to help safeguard koalas and their habitat through learning, action and community engagement.

By equipping teachers with curriculum-ready, free resources, Koala Smart allows students to understand the threats facing koalas and then channel that awareness into real-world conservation projects.

Founded locally in 2019 as a Tacking Point Lions Club project, Koala Smart now sits under Wildlife Smart Ltd (an ACNC-registered charity), and has grown into a nationwide program embraced by hundreds of schools across Australia.

Through lesson plans, activities, virtual excursions and direct support from conservation professionals, Koala Smart doesn’t just teach about koalas - it helps students become active custodians of Australia’s wildlife.

For communities around Port Macquarie and right across Australia, it’s a bridge between education and environmental action, offering hope that the next generation can help turn the tide for koalas’ survival.
